Jeremy Corbyn Secures First Step Toward UK Inquiry into Gaza Genocide

London (Quds News Network)- Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has cleared a key hurdle in his push for a public inquiry into the UK’s role in the Gaza genocide.

On Wednesday, Corbyn secured permission in Parliament to introduce a bill calling for an official investigation. He said the inquiry would be modeled after the Chilcot Inquiry into the Iraq War.

“The public deserves to know the full extent of the UK’s complicity in these atrocities,” Corbyn told the House of Commons.

The move came from Corbyn’s Independent Alliance, formed alongside pro-Palestine MPs who won seats in the last general election. The group aimed to force a vote, but no MP opposed the motion.

The bill would establish a public inquiry into the UK’s military and political ties with Israel. It would investigate arms sales and military coordination from the RAF base in Akrotiri, Cyprus.

Corbyn proposed July 4 as the date for the bill’s second reading.

The bill marks a significant political moment. For the first time, the UK Parliament is officially considering an investigation into its role in the Israeli genocide in Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands since October 2023.
