The fishermen, who frequented the area daily to earn their livelihood, were at the beach in Tyre setting up their fishing nets when the Israeli drone attacked them. Al Jazeera’s Lebanon bureau chief reported that the fishermen had just placed their nets and retreated to nearby sand dunes to prepare their equipment when the Israeli drone attacked them.
One fisherman died instantly, while another sustained severe injuries and is presumed to have later succumbed to his wounds. The third fisherman was also injured. Rescue teams arrived shortly after the strike to retrieve the victims.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent confirmed that the fishermen were unarmed civilians with no affiliation to military or rescue operations. They relied on fishing to provide for the few remaining residents of Tyre, a city where over 95% of the population has fled due to relentless Israeli airstrikes.
He described the attack as a deliberate act of killing, carried out in full view of journalists stationed in the area.
The ongoing Israeli assaults have devastated Tyre and southern Lebanon, leaving the city in a dire humanitarian state.
This attack adds to the growing number of civilian casualties in southern Lebanon, as Israel continues to attack Lebanon.
