Israeli Airstrikes Attack Southern Syria, Killing and Injuring Civilians

Daraa (Quds News Network)- Israeli airstrikes targeted the outskirts of Daraa, southern Syria, on Sunday night. The attack killed two people and injured at least 19 others, according to Syrian state media (SANA). Ambulances rushed to the scene as panic spread among residents.

Israeli media reported that the Israeli Air Force targeted military sites in the area. However, local sources stated that civilians were among the casualties.

This latest strike follows a February attack when Israeli forces bombed a Syrian Defense Ministry site in Tel Al-Hara, western Daraa. Other Israeli raids have hit multiple locations across Syria, including Damascus.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly justified these attacks. In February, he vowed to strike anyone who threatens Israel and insisted that southern Syria must remain completely demilitarized.

Defense Minister Israel Katz echoed this stance, stating that Israel will defend itself against any threats from Syria. He emphasized that Israeli forces will remain active in Golan Heights and other security zones.

Since the removal of ousted Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has increased airstrikes across Syria. Israeli officials claim these attacks aim to prevent the new government from acquiring military stockpiles left by the ousted regime.

Israel has also expanded its military presence in the occupied Golan Heights, moving into the demilitarized buffer zone. The situation remains tense, raising fears of further escalation in the region.
