Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has threatened Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, emphasizing Israel’s continued military presence on Al-Sheikh Mountain. “When Sharaa opens his eyes every morning, he will see the Israeli army watching him from Mount Hermon,” Katz declared during a visit to the area, about 40 kilometers from Damascus. He stressed that Israel would not relinquish control over the strategic Syrian location and vowed to keep the southern Syria “safe zone” demilitarized. Katz’s remarks come amid rising tensions between Israel and Syria. On Monday night, Israeli airstrikes targeted 40 Syrian military sites in Daraa province. Katz said the attacks were part of Israel’s policy to “neutralize threats” and prevent hostile actions. He also reiterated Israel’s plans to intervene in Syria under the pretext of protecting the Druze Syrian population in the region. “We will strengthen ties with local residents and launch a new work program for the Druze in Golan towns on March 16,” he announced. Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa had dismissed previous Katz’s statements, calling them “nonsense.” In an interview with Reuters, Sharaa highlighted Israel’s atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon. “They are the last ones who can talk,” Sharaa told Reuters. Katz had called Sharaa “a jihadist terrorist of the al-Qaeda school” and accused him of committing “horrifying acts against civilians.” He warned that Israel would ‘defend itself’ against any threat from Syria and vowed to keep southern Syria a demilitarized zone.
