German Prosecutors Target Top Officials, Including Merz, for Aiding Israel in Gaza Genocide

Berlin (QNN)- A coalition of lawyers and rights groups has filed a criminal complaint against top German leaders for aiding genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
The complaint was submitted by the Justice and Accountability for Palestine Initiative to Germany’s federal prosecutor. It targets 11 officials, including current Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, and former Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
At a press conference in Berlin, the lawyers stated that the German officials approved and continued weapons exports to Israel. These arms and military supplies have flowed since October 7, 2023, despite mounting evidence of mass civilian killings in Gaza.
The case also names four German arms executives. Among them are leaders of MTU, which supplies diesel engines for Israel’s Merkava tanks. Other companies are accused of making drone and missile components used in Gaza attacks.
The complaint follows a damning UN Independent Commission of Inquiry report, which found that Israel committed four acts of genocide under the Genocide Convention. Activists say this gives the case more international and legal weight.
The initiative is backed by the European Legal Support Center (ELSC), the Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy (PIPD), and Law for Palestine. Their goal is to hold German politicians and arms dealers accountable for enabling mass atrocities.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has waged a genocide in Gaza. It includes mass killings, forced displacement, starvation, and the destruction of civilian life.
According to updated figures, the assault has killed 65,174 Palestinians and injured 166,071, most of them children and women. Starvation caused by Israel’s blockade has claimed 440 more lives, including 147 children.
Germany has long been one of Israel’s closest allies and a key arms supplier. The lawsuit challenges that support, framing it as complicity in the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.
