Ben-Gvir storms Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem
Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- Right-wing Israeli Knesset member, Itamar Ben-Gvir, on Thursday morning stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.
Ben-Gvir stormed the site under heavy police protection. Moreover, his incursion lasted for about 15 minutes.
On Wesnesday evening, the Israeli police approved Ben-Gvir’s incursion into the complex ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
In a statement, Jerusalem’s Islamic Waqf said Ben-Gvir stormed the site through the Mughrabi Gate which is fully under the Israeli control.
“I don’t surrender and I don’t fold,” Ben-Gvir said during the incursion.
“The state of Israel must not give in to those terrorists who want to murder us all.”
He also called the Islamic Waqf “terrorists”.
“Whoever controls the Temple Mount controls the Land of Israel. The enemy understands this too,” he said.
He claimed he had been receiving death threats from Hamas and its spokesman ahead of the incursion.
“I advise [the spokesman] to shut up.”
“I don’t know why Israel doesn’t eliminate him in a targeted strike. He’s a terrorist,” he said.
Ben-Gvir had vowed to storm the holy site to mark the start of the Hebrew month.
However, concerns are running high that settler incursions into the holy site during the Jewish Passover holiday may lead to violence and more tensions.
The Passover coincides with the third week of Ramadan.
Ben-Gvir is well-known for provoking and insulting the Palestinians.
In February, he also set up a makeshift office in the front yard of the house of the Jerusalemite family of Salem in the Sheikh Jarrah.
Last May, ‘Israel’ tried to forcibly displaced multiple families from the neighbourhood in order to make way for Israeli settlers.
The events had led to widespread protests in the occupied Palestinian territories and also a large-scale military operation in the besieged Gaza Strip.
