‘Israel’ freezes decision of forced displacement of Palestinian family in Sheikh Jarrah

Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- An Israeli court in occupied Jerusalem decided on Tuesday to suspend the forced displacement order against Palestinian family of Salem in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
After weeks of tension and confrontations between local Palestinian families and Israeli settlers and forces in the area and due to fears over reigniting violence, the Israeli magistrates’ court in Jerusalem suspended yesterday the decision of the forced displacement of the Salem family of its house in the Sheikh Jarrah.
The occupation court also ordered the Salem family to deposit $7,750 with the court while it considers an appeal against the forced displacement and waits for a settler group to respond to the family’s legal claim to the house.
Israeli media reported that the court’s decision was made in order to avoid protests in the city, which could continue into the month of Ramadan in April and result in an escalation of violence across the occupied West Bank.
Last May, Palestinians protested during Ramadan against attempts to forcibly displace families from their houses in Sheikh Jarrah, sparking weeks of violence and culminating in Israel’s brutal 11-day military aggression on the Gaza Strip, which killed 230 Palestinians, including 65 children.
The Salems, a family of 11, including four children, were expected to be forcibly displaced of their house at the beginning of March.
Yonatan Yosef, a settler leader and a member of Jerusalem’s city council, was set to move into the Palestinian family’s house after the forced displacement.
Sheikh Jarrah has been cited as one of the most issues that sparked attention and condemnation around the world, as several countries slammed Israeli occupation forces and settlers violence against Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and Israeli forced displacement of families from their houses as dozens of Palestinians are facing imminent forced displacement from their homes, in a move to force them out and replace it entirely with an Israeli settlement.
