Who are the other Hamas officials assassinated with the movement’s deputy chief in Beirut?
Beirut (Quds News Network) – In a targeted Israeli airstrike on the southern neighborhood of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, the Deputy Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri, was assassinated yesterday.
The resistance group mourns not only Al-Arouri but also Hamas officials Samir Fandi and Azzam Al-Aqra, along with several other martyrs from the movement, namely Ahmad Hammoud, Mahmoud Shahin, Mohammad al-Rayyes, and Mohammad Bshasha.
Azzam Al-Aqra, known also by his kunya, Abu Abdullah, held a key role as the leader of the Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas, in Lebanon and beyond Palestine.
Hailing from Qabalan in the Nablus Governorate, he was an ex-prisoner who spent years in Israeli prisons.
Samir Fandi, or Abu Amer, served as the operations chief for the Qassam Brigades in Lebanon. Last July, Israeli intelligence agency Shen Bit included Fandi on its assassination list, as reported by Channel 14.
Meanwhile, Al-Aqra’s name surfaced in Israeli media, with the occupation accusing a Palestinian detainee of meeting him in Turkey, allegedly planning to infiltrate the Israeli telecom network Cellcom.
Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh condemned the Israeli assassination of the prominent national commander Al-Arouri and his comrades on Lebanese soil.
Haniyeh labeled the assassinations a complete act of terrorism, violating Lebanon’s sovereignty and expanding the aggression against their people and nation beyond the land of Palestine.
