Western churches start celebrating Easter in Palestine

Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- Western churches started today celebrating the Resurrection Sunday in Palestine.

Christians had celebrated Good Friday in the Old City’s Christian quarter for the Way of the Cross procession, where worshippers retrace the last steps of Jesus before his crucifixion.

In scenes very different from last year, Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre was open to the public on Palm Sunday last week. Thousands of worshipers took part in the prayers and celebrations as more than half of Israelis have received two vaccine doses.

“Last year was a terrible Easter, without people, closed doors. This year is much better, the door is open, we don’t have a lot of people but we feel more hopeful that things will become better,” the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, told Reuters news agency on Palm Sunday.

Although the occupation state vaccinated its population, it deprived Palestinians of the vaccination, which means that thousands of Palestinian Christians will be denied entry to the holy city during the holidays.
