Watchdog warns of “mounting risks” on Abu Hawwash’s life
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- The Palestinian Detainees Association warned of “mounting risks” on the life of Hisham Abu Hawwash, who has been on hunger strike for 127 days so far, in protest against his unlawful administrative detention.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association said Abu Hawwash “is put in the hospital of the Ramlah prison in very poor health condition, and the occupation refuses to transfer him to a civilian hospital.”
Abu Hawwash “is confronting an entire Israeli system, which has been using all its tools to assault him in order to bring him to a serious health condition that ould be hard to be cured later”, the statement added. It also said that Israeli courts “played a key role in the repressive measures.”
Last Sunday, the Israeli supreme court rejected an appeal to suspend the administrative detention of Abu Hawwash or send him to a civilian hospital, claiming that the Israeli prison service is the only one entitled to do so.
Abu Hawwash (40 years old) from Hebron, was arrested in October 2020 under administrative detention, which was renewed three times.
Administrative detention is a procedure that allows the Israeli military to hold prisoners indefinitely on secret information without charging them or allowing them to stand trial. Israeli authorities hold nearly 540 Palestinians under administrative detention although it is illegal under international law.
