Watchdog: ‘Israel’ arrested 36 children, 12 women among 330 others last August

Ramallah (QNN)- Israeli authorities continued its arrest policy last month although of the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, arresting 330 Palestinians including 36 children and 12 women, according to a new report by Palestine Center for Prisoners’ Studies.

In its monthly report on Israeli arrests, the center stated that one arrest was registered at the Gaza border while the number of arrested members of the legislative council has risen to 7 after arresting Ahmad Attoun (54 years old) and Abdel Jaber Fuqaha.

Israeli forces also arrested journalist Mus’ab Saeed (29 years old) after breaking into his house in northern Ramallah, and Musafa Abu Rmouz (43 years old) and prevented him from entering Al Aqsa mosque for 6 months.

the head of the center, Riyad Al Ashqar, added that the occupation state continued to target Palestinian women, arresting 12 of them, including a master’s student from Bireh, who was subjected to torture, and Salam Imhesen, who has been arrested several times. A teacher at Al Aqsa mosque compound, a wife of a prisoner, and a whole family of four was arrested in August as well.

Israeli authorities also continued to arrest more Palestinian children, arresting 36 children under the age of 18, most of them are from occupied Jerusalem.

The report noted that more Palestinian prisoners joined an open hunger strike to protest their administrative detention, while others suspended their strike after an Israeli promise to fulfill their demands. Khalil Abu Iram (54 years old), who is serving a life sentence, suspended his strike that he started to demand meeting his jailed son Ahmad after the Israelis promised to move him to Ofer jail.

Other prisoners continue to go on a hunger strike for the 40th day in a row, while Israeli courts continued to issue more administrative detention orders, issuing 82 orders in August.

Regarding Covid-19 in Israeli jails, 12 prisoners tested positive due to the lack of protection measures, rising the toll of Covid-19 patients in Israeli jails to 19. The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) claimed that the 12 prisoners were negative for the virus after a week of testing them before announcing that they were positive, raising concerns about the Israeli seriousness of protecting Palestinians from the virus.
