Watchdog: 17 COVID-19 cases among prisoners in Negev jail

Ramallah (QNN)- 17 new COVID-19 cases have been registered on Monday among prisoners in section 10 of the Israeli Negev desert jail, said the Palestinian Prisoners’ Association.

In a statement issued on Monday, the association said 50 prisoners have been tested for the virus. The 17 new cases raise the total number of cases among prisoners to over 350.

The association added that patient prisoners are among those infected. Most infections are for prisoners in section 10.

The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) isolated the infected prisoners at Sihronim jail.

The watchdog warned that the ongoing Israeli policy, using the virus as a tool against Palestinian prisoners, would have disastrous consequences on the lives of Palestinian prisoners.

It also called on the International Red Cross to carry out its real role, following up the conditions of the infected prisoners and allowing them to call their families.
