On Thursday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said the death toll of the Israeli aggression on Gaza since October 7 has surpassed 40,000, with more than 92,401 wounded and an estimated 10,000 missing, likely dead and buried under rubble.
Health officials reported that around 33 percent of the victims are children, 18.4 percent are women, and 8.6 percent are elders.
The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) also said the death toll in Gaza crossing 40,000 was a “very grim milestone”.
“Forty-thousand lives reportedly gone in just over 10 months in Gaza. And possibly, it’s even more. Whatever dispute there is over the numbers, there is no dispute over the immense suffering,” he posted on X.
“This is a direct result of a collective failure to reach a ceasefire,” he noted, adding that more than 200 Unrwa members had been killed in the 10-month-long war.
