US warship targets Houthis’ reconnaissance plane in Red Sea
Gaza (Quds News)- The Spokesman for the Houthis group in Yemen, Mohammad Abessalam, said that an American warship fired missiles at a reconnaissance plane affiliated with the group in the Red Sea.
The group added that one of the missiles exploded near a ship heading south.
“While a reconnaissance plane affiliated with the Yemeni naval forces was conducting reconnaissance in the Red Sea, an American warship fired in a hysterical manner and with multiple weapons… where one of the missiles exploded near a ship heading south in the Red Sea”, Abdessalam said.
He added that the harmed ship belonged to the Republic of Gabon and had come from Russia.
Abdessalam warned that “The Red Sea will become a battlefield if the US and its allies continue in the manner of thuggery, and the countries along the Red Sea shores must realize the reality of the risks threatening their national security.”
The Houthis’ leader, Abdel Malek Al Houthi, had warned on Wednesday that they would target American warships if the latter attacks targets linked to the Houthis.
Earlier this week, the US announced assembling a multinational naval coalition to tackle the “recent escalation in reckless Houthi attacks originating from Yemen”, according to a statement by Lloyd Austin, the US defense secretary.
The operation, named Operation Prosperity Guardian, has shortly afterwards collapsed after France, Spain, and Italy announced their Withdrawal from the US Command Structure for the Operation. They stated that they will only conduct further Maritime Operations under the Command of NATO and/or the European Union and not the United States.
