US to send MK-83 half-ton bombs to Israel
Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- The United States has announced plans to supply Israel with MK-83 half-ton bombs, even as Israel continues its genocide in Gaza and attacks neighboring countries, according to Israel Hayom.
According to the Israeli newspaper, the Biden administration has lifted restrictions on supplying Israel with these powerful MK-83 bombs. This decision was reportedly made even before the current escalation, which resulted from Israel’s assassination of the former Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and senior Hezbollah leader Fuad Shokr.
The fate of the heavier MK-84 bombs, which weigh one ton each, remains uncertain, with no clear indication of whether the US will agree to their transfer to the occupation state.
These half-ton bombs have been previously used by the Israel for various operations in the region during periods of relative calm. They will now join approximately 1,700 MK-82 bombs weighing 551 pounds each.
Reports from late June indicated that the Biden administration agreed to lift the delay on transferring the MK-82 bombs after Israel disregarded previous American requests not to attack Rafah, which was housing more than one and a half million displaced people. The Israeli attack on Rafah displaced over a million displaced civilians and killed hundreds of them.
Israeli defense officials believe that the delay in shipping the heavier bombs is now purely for appearances, according to the Israeli newspaper. They noted that one of Netanyahu’s goals during his recent US visit was to persuade President Biden to release the shipment of heavy bombs.
