US lifts suspension on 500-pound bombs to Israel

Washington D.C. (Quds News Network)- The Biden administration has lifted the suspension on a shipment of 500-pound bombs to Israel, ending a two-month pause that meant to “reduce civilian casualties in Gaza”, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ reported citing US officials that the bombs “are in the process of being shipped,” and are expected to arrive in the occupation state of Israel in coming weeks.

Last May, the administration paused a shipment of 2,000-pound and 500-pound bombs due to concern over the impact they could have on civilians in Rafah, which used to shelter over 1 million displaced Palestinians. The Israeli military, however, invaded and bombarded the city using different kinds of weapons, leaving hundreds of fatalities.

The US has notified the occupation state of Israel that it is releasing the 500-pound bombs but keeping the hold on the larger ones, according to the report.

The US continued to provide other kinds of weapons and bombs to Israel, despite mounting civilian casualties and violations of international law.

Last April, the US Congress approved $17 billion in military aid to Israel under a $95 billion foreign military assistance package.
