US downplays Iran’s strikes, reaffirms full support for Israel
Washington (Quds News Network)- The United States has downplayed the significance of Iran’s recent missile strike on Israel, with President Joe Biden and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan both describing the attack as “defeated and ineffective” shortly following the strikes and before any official Israeli statement was made. In a statement, Biden emphasized that the US fully supports Israel and had aided in intercepting allegedly most of the missiles launched by Iran.
The strikes, which were carried out in retaliation for the assassinations of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, involved over 200 missiles targeting the occupation state. However, Sullivan claimed that the majority of these missiles were intercepted by US Navy destroyers and Israel’s air defense systems. He also warned of “significant consequences” for Iran’s actions, further underscoring America’s unwavering backing of Israel.
Dozens of videos were published on social media platforms, revealing large-scales destruction in Israeli military sites due to the Iranian missile strikes.
Earlier, Biden had ordered the US military to assist in Israel’s defense and intercept incoming missiles, according to the White House. Sullivan added that the US is working closely with Israel to evaluate the situation and consult on potential next steps.
Israeli officials claimed that the missile barrage caused minimal damage, and the occupation state remains on high alert for any further escalation. Foreign Minister Israel Katz instructed Israeli ambassadors worldwide to communicate Israel’s intent to respond forcefully to the Iranian strikes.
International reactions have followed swiftly. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for global condemnation of Iran’s actions, while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his country’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security in a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
