US and UK launch airstrikes against Yemen; Houthi movement vows retaliation

Sanaa (Quds News Network) – The spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced this morning that US-British fighter jets conducted 48 airstrikes on several provinces in Yemen.

In a press statement released on Sunday, he affirmed that these attacks “will not deter us from supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza and will not pass without a response.”

Saree explained that the US-British aggression targeted multiple locations in the provinces of Sanaa, Al Hudaydah, Taizz, Al-Bayda, Hajjah, and Saada.

Responding to the airstrikes, Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, a member of Ansar Allah’s political bureau, stated, “We will meet escalation with escalation, and our operations will continue until the aggression on Gaza ceases.”

Meanwhile, a joint US-British statement said that airstrikes were carried out on 36 Houthi-related targets across 13 locations in Yemen. US officials described the overnight strikes as the “next retaliatory round for the soldiers’ killing in Jordan.” However, CNN quoted a senior US administration official stating that “the strikes against the Houthis are separate from the US response in Iraq and Syria.”

Additionally, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the destruction of six anti-ship cruise missiles in Yemen, equipped for launch in the Red Sea. According to CENTCOM, these missiles posed an imminent threat to US Navy ships and commercial vessels in the region, as they were located in areas controlled by the Houthi movement.

In solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli aggression with US support since October 7, the Houthis have targeted cargo ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea with missiles and drones, blocking the occupying Israeli regime’s access to a major international route.
