UN’s Wennesland slams Israeli settlers’ attacks against Palestinians in Hebron

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, slammed on Saturday Israeli settlers’ attacks against Palestinians in the old city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

In a tweet, Wennesland wrote, “I condemn today’s violent attacks by Israeli extremists against Palestinian residents in the Old City of Hebron. Such acts may aggravate an already tense environment.”

Wennesland added, “All have a responsibility to act against extremists and to speak out against all acts of violence and incitement.”

Dozens of Palestinians were injured on Friday night as thousands of Israeli settlers escorted by Israeli extremist leader Itamar Ben-Gvir gathered in Hebron’s Old City to mark the so-called Jewish Sabbath holiday.

The settlers reportedly attacked Palestinians and their houses in and around the Old City. The army-gurded Israeli settlers rampaged through the old city of Hebron, terrorized the local Palestinian residents and provoked them.

A large group of masked settlers also threw stones at a Palestinian home. The attackers smashed the home’s windows and a car windshield.

Israeli media also reported that settlers had attacked Israeli soldiers during their celebrations.

Hebron is home to roughly 160,000 Palestinians and about 500 Israeli settlers. The latter settle in a series of settlers-only settlements heavily guarded by Israeli forces.
