UNRWA: Thousands of Aid Trucks Waiting as Starvation Worsens in Gaza
Gaza (Quds News Network)- The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has urged immediate approval to bring thousands of aid trucks into Gaza. The trucks are already waiting in Jordan and Egypt, loaded with food, medicine, and hygiene supplies.
In a Sunday statement, UNRWA said that opening all crossings and flooding Gaza with aid is the only way to stop the hunger crisis from getting worse.
“What’s needed is at least 500 to 600 trucks of basics every day,” the agency said.
UNRWA’s latest data paints a grim picture: one in every five children in Gaza City is now malnourished. More children reportedly died of hunger today, pushing the death toll from starvation to over 100.
UNRWA confirmed it has over 10,000 staff in Gaza ready to deliver aid directly, safely, and with dignity.
“We have the reach, the network, the know-how, and, most importantly, the trust of the communities we serve,” the agency said.
UNRWA also repeated its call for a long-term ceasefire as part of a broader agreement that would allow for uninterrupted humanitarian access.
This statement comes as Israel claimed to begin a so-called “humanitarian truce” on Sunday. But only 73 trucks entered Gaza that day; far below the daily minimum needed. Most of the aid was looted, and airdrops fell into Israeli-controlled combat zones, where civilians could not reach them.
The famine continues to deepen, with 2.4 million people at risk. Aid workers and local officials warn that without immediate and massive deliveries, more lives will be lost.
Basketball superstar Kyrie Irving has changed his Instagram profile picture to an image showing a Palestinian child prevented by Israeli soldiers from attending school in the occupied West Bank.
Israel’s observer status at the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly (PACE) could be suspended over the new death penalty law for Palestinians, the president of the body has said.
On the first anniversary of the death of Pope Francis, his popemobile has yet to enter Gaza, despite his wish to convert it into a mobile clinic for children in the war-torn Gaza, amid Israeli restrictions and limited crossing openings.
