UN rights chief: Israel’s annexation plan is illegal. Period
Geneva (QNN)- The United Nations’ top human rights official Michelle Bachelet on Monday stated that the Israeli plans to annex parts of the West Bank are illegal. She also called on the occupation state to halt its illegal annexation plans and warned it could lead to deadly clashes.
“Annexation is illegal. Period,” Bachelet said in a statement. “I am deeply concerned that even the most minimalist form of annexation would lead to increased violence and loss of life, as walls are erected, security forces deployed and the two populations brought into closer proximity.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans to impose Israeli sovereignty over illegal settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem has drawn condemnation from most countries of the world. His cabinet is due to begin formal annexation deliberations on Wednesday, July 1.
The annexation comes as a unilateral adoption of Trump’s ‘Peace’ plan, which gave the occupation state the green light to annex over 30% of the already occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, locking thousands of native Palestinians inside separated cantons, which have been called “Bantustan”, referring to the separated territory given to native South Africans during the apartheid era.
