UN Human Rights Council adopts two resolutions in favor of Palestine

Geneva (QNN) – The UN Human Rights Council on Friday adopted two resolutions in favor of Palestine.

The two resolutions are on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the illegality of Israeli settlement.

41 countries voted in favor of the resolution “the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.”

However, three countries voted against it, and three countries abstained.

The Council reaffirmed the Palestinians right to live in freedom, justice and dignity and the right to their independent State of Palestine.

It also called upon all States to adopt measures to promote the realization of the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people.

Moreover, it called the states to assist the UN in carrying out its responsibilities regarding the implementation of that right.

In the same context, 38 countries voted in favor of the resolution “Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”

Four countries, however, voted against it, and five countries abstained.

The Council reaffirmed that Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.

It noted that settlements constituted a major obstacle in achieving the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.

The Human Rights Council also expressed grave concern at the fragmentation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

It further called on ‘Israel’ to end its occupation of the territories occupied since 1967.

It also urged ‘Israel’ to immediately stop the establishment of new settlements and the expansion of existing ones.
