UN human rights chief says an Israeli offensive in Rafah would be “terrifying”
Geneva (Quds News Network) – UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Turk has expressed deep concern over Israel’s reported plans for a large-scale military offensive in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Describing the potential incursion as “terrifying,” Turk emphasized the dire consequences it could have on the approximately 1.5 million civilians in the area who lack alternative places of refuge.
In a statement released by the France-Presse Agency, Turk warned that a ground invasion by Israeli forces into Rafah could result in a devastating number of civilian casualties, with a particular focus on the vulnerability of children and women.
He underscored the significant risk this poses to the civilian population and the potential for severe humanitarian consequences.
