UK politicians, lawyers, rights advocates to launch initiative promoting Palestinians’ rights
London (QNN)- A group of politicians, lawyers, and human rights advocates announced forming an independent organization to support the rights of the Palestinian people and aim to protect their rights through the law.
The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), which will be launched next Wednesday, is formed of lawyers, politicians and academics who support Palestine. Its principal objective is “to coordinate and support legal work which supports the rights of Palestinians in Israel, the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the wider diaspora”, according to its website.
ICJP’s advisory board includes well-known figues, such as Sir Geoffrey Bindman QC, founder of the leading London Human Rights law firm Bindmans LLP and former legal adviser to the Race Relations Board and thereafter to the Commission for Racial Equality. Sir Bindman was knighted in 2007 for his efforts advocating human rights and was appointed honorary Queen’s Counsel.
The advisory board also includes Sir Alan Duncan, who served as the British government’s Minister of State for International Development and the UK’s Foreign Minister responsible for Europe and the Americas. Also, the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and International Development and the Member of Parliament Layla Moran, former executive director of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East and North Africa Sarah Leah Witson, Professor John Dugard, Wadah Khanfar, and Dr Tim Moloney.
