UK Labour Party votes for sanctions against ‘Israel’ for apartheid policy

London (QNN)- The UK Labour Party Conference has voted on Monday in favor of a motion describing the occupation state of Israel as a state practicing the crime of apartheid and calling for sanctions against it, making it the first major political party in Europe to adopt such a position.

The motion passed by the Brighton conference demands action that stops “the building of settlements, reverses any annexation, ends the occupation of the West Bank, the blockade of Gaza”.

“Conference condemns the ongoing Nakba in Palestine, Israel’s militarized violence attacking the Al Aqsa mosque, the forced displacements from Sheikh Jarrah and the deadly assault on Gaza,” the motion read.

Sanctions should also be imposed to ensure the occupation state “brings down the Wall and respects the right of Palestinian people, enshrined in international law, to return to their homes”, it states.

The motion quotes reports by human rights groups that “conclude unequivocally that Israel is practicing the crime of apartheid as defined by the UN”.
