U.S. strongly condemns Killing of Palestinian Journalist Abu Akleh, calls for Immediate Investigation

WAHINGTON (QNN) – The US State Department has strongly condemned the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

“Her death is an affront to media freedom everywhere,” the United States State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a tweet.

“The US is heartbroken by the killing of American journalist Shereen Abu Akleh,” he said, adding that the investigation must be immediate and thorough and those responsible must be held accountable.”

Abu Akleh, 51, was shot dead by Israeli occupation forces, as she covering an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin Wednesday morning.

She was born in occupied Jerusalem in 1971 and obtained a BA in journalism and media from Yarmouk University in Jordan. She also holds US citizenship.
