Trump’s Treatment of Zelensky vs. Netanyahu Sparks Debate on Social Media

Social media users are comparing US President Donald Trump’s treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to his approach toward Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The contrast has sparked a heated discussion about US foreign policy priorities and the extent of Israel’s influence over the US president.

A tense exchange between Trump, his Vice President J.D. Vance, and Zelensky at the White House set off the debate. Trump told Zelensky that Ukraine was in trouble and not winning the war against Russia. He suggested that Zelensky should be more grateful and agree to a ceasefire. Vance criticized Zelensky for arguing in front of the American media and questioned Ukraine’s ability to recruit enough soldiers. The meeting ended with Trump cutting the discussion short and reportedly expelling Zelensky.

This firm stance toward Ukraine led many online to wonder why Trump never spoke to Netanyahu in the same way.

CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin remarked, “I would love to see Trump talk to Netanyahu like this! ‘Without our weapons, your war on Palestinians would be over, so you better stick to the ceasefire deal we negotiated or we’re out.’”

Others pointed out the stark difference in Trump’s behavior. Dr. Omar Suleiman recalled how Trump once pulled out Netanyahu’s chair for him at the White House, while he dismissed Zelensky after their argument. “Ask yourself,” he wrote, “why do some get this ‘America First’ treatment while Israel gets blank checks and red carpets?”

Right-wing commentator Nicholas J. Fuentes added cryptically, “If only you knew how different things could be…” Meanwhile, journalist Dan Cohen called the incident with Zelensky a rare moment where the US exposed its true relationship with its allies. He said that while Trump and Republicans publicly criticize US support for foreign nations, they remain deferential to Israel.

Zionism Observer drew a direct comparison between Trump’s comments to Zelensky and Israel’s propaganda tours. In the exchange, Trump accused Ukraine of bringing people on propaganda tours. Some argued that Israel does the same but without facing criticism from Washington.

Political commentator Jackson Hinkle wished Trump would take a tougher stance on Netanyahu, while musician B L A K E L E Y simply mocked the difference in tone, writing, “Trump to Zelenskyy vs. Trump to Netanyahu lol.” Another user, Sana, pointed to Trump’s treatment of other world leaders, including Jordan’s King Abdullah, France’s Emmanuel Macron, and Britain’s Keir Starmer. “Then look at how he treats Netanyahu,” she wrote. “Who owns the White House? Israel. It’s not even a debate at this point! MAGA = ISRAEL FIRST.”
