Trump Wants Hamas to Release Israeli-American Prisoners as ‘a Gesture’

Gaza (Quds News Network)- A senior US official said the White House expects Hamas to release six Israeli-American prisoners in Gaza as a ‘goodwill gesture’ to President Donald Trump. The statement followed Russia’s recent release of an American prisoner as a symbolic move to welcome Trump back to the presidency, according to Israel’s Channel 13.

Trump reportedly viewed Russia’s gesture as a precedent and believed Hamas could do the same. “We know that President Trump expresses himself against Hamas in the clearest way. He says Hamas must be completely eliminated, yet he expects this gesture from them,” the channel’s correspondent said.

Three days ago, Trump threatened to abandon the ongoing ceasefire deal if all prisoners were not returned by Saturday. “If all the hostages aren’t returned by Saturday at 12 o’clock, I’d say cancel it and let hell break out,” he threatened. His statement was described as reckless and unrealistic. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s stance. He echoed the threat but avoided specifying the number of prisoners, likely to prevent any embarrassment for Trump.

Hamas had delayed the release of Israeli prisoners last week, citing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement. However, Israel today has allowed humanitarian aid into Gaza for the first time since the ceasefire started, including caravans, fuel, medical supplies, and rescue equipment. The move helped bring the ceasefire back on track.
