Trump to likely release peace plan after Israeli election
Washington (QNN)- US. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he would likely wait until after the Israeli election on Sept. 17 to release his peace plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“I probably will wait, but we may put out pieces of it,” Trump said, explaining that “peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians” is the “toughest deal of all.”
There has been “decades of hate” between the Israelis and the Palestinians, Trump said. “It is tough to make a deal when there is that much hate,” he added.
Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, is said to be the main architect of a proposed $50bn economic plan for Palestine, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon.
The upcoming Israeli election is the second one of its kind scheduled to take place this year.
In June, Kushner unveiled the financial portion of the so-called peace plan at a US-sponsored summit in Bahrain attended by Arab leaders – but was boycotted by the Palestinians, as the summit avoided a political settlement and was described by the Palestinian leadership as an attempt by the US administration and some of its allies in the region to “liquidate” the Palestinian cause.
Kushner has said his plan will not mention a two-state solution because “it means one thing to the Israelis, it means one thing to the Palestinians”.
Kushner has never met with Palestinian officials during his visits to finalize his plan.
