Trump Says ‘Very Close’ to Securing Gaza Ceasefire Deal

Washington (Quds News Network)- US President-Elect Donald Trump said that Israel and Hamas were “very close” to securing a deal, “maybe by the end of the week,” in a telephone interview with Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt on Monday.

“If they don’t get it done, there’s going to be a lot of trouble out there,” Trump said – “A lot of trouble like they’ve never seen before”

“I understand there’s been a handshake and they’re getting it finished and maybe by the end of the week, but it has to take place,” he added.

Also on Monday, President Joe Biden said a deal was on the “brink” and “finally coming to fruition.”

Trump has previously warned of consequences if the captives are not released by the time he takes office on January 20.

Israeli and Hamas officials reported progress in talks ongoing in Doha, the Qatari capital, mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States.

On Monday, Qatar handed Israel and Hamas a “final” draft of a ceasefire and prisoner release agreement designed to end the war in Gaza, an official briefed on the negotiations told Reuters.

A breakthrough was reached in Doha after midnight following talks between Israel’s spy chiefs, President-elect Trump’s Middle East envoy and Qatar’s prime minister, the official said.
