Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Witkoff dismissed the plan’s third phase, which focuses on Gaza’s reconstruction. “It’s physically impossible,” he said. “We’re trying to be transparent with these people.” He stressed that the level of destruction in Gaza is so severe that no city in the US would allow residents to return under similar conditions.
According to Witkoff, Gaza is filled with hazards, including 30,000 unexploded munitions, unstable buildings, and a complete lack of basic utilities, using that as a pretext to call for the forced expulsion of the Palestinian people from Gaza. “God knows what kind of disease might be festering there,” he warned. He added that some displaced Palestinians return briefly, only to leave again after seeing the devastation.
Calls for Palestinian Expulsion
Witkoff and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz defended Trump’s stance on expelling Palestinians, a policy that has sparked global controversy. Witkoff described the approach as “logical,” arguing that it addresses the current realities in Gaza and the region.
The Trump administration has been in talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who sent a delegation to Doha for ceasefire negotiations. Discussions have also taken place with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and further meetings are planned with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
