Trump campaign confirms safety after shooting incident near Palm Beach golf course

Florida (Quds News Network)- In a statement released Sunday, Donald Trump’s campaign confirmed that the former president and current Republican candidate for the 2024 US presidential election is safe following a shooting near his location in Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump’s campaign communications director, Steven Cheung, stated that Trump is “safe” and currently in Palm Beach. However, no further details about the incident were provided.

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., revealed that gunshots were fired at a golf course in West Palm Beach, with local authorities discovering a Russian-made AK-47 rifle at the scene. According to American media reports, Trump was playing golf at his Palm Beach club when an altercation between two individuals outside the premises resulted in a gunfire exchange. Trump was immediately moved to a secure location, and there were no indications that he was in direct danger.

The New York Post reported that the shooting occurred in a high-crime area, and Trump was not at risk. However, CNN reported that authorities believe Trump may have been the intended target of the shooting near his golf course. Investigators found a semi-automatic rifle, a backpack, and a camera prepared for recording at the scene of the incident.

The Secret Service, which provides security for Trump, responded to the gunfire and returned shots in the direction of the assailant. A spokesperson from the Secret Service confirmed that Trump is safe and announced that both the Palm Beach police and Secret Service are conducting a full investigation. A press briefing with additional details will be held soon.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the arrest of a suspect, described as a white male, near Trump’s golf club.

Meanwhile, White House spokespersons confirmed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the security incident. Both expressed relief upon learning that Trump was unharmed. Vice President Harris stated, ” I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”

This incident follows a previous assassination attempt on Trump in July, when he sustained a minor injury to his ear after a young man opened fire during a rally in Pennsylvania.
