Three Qatari Diplomats Killed in Car Crash Near Sharm El-Sheikh Ahead of Gaza Ceasefire Summit
Cairo (QNN)- Three Qatari diplomats were killed early Sunday in a car accident on the road leading to Sharm El-Sheikh. The diplomats were traveling to attend the official announcement of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
According to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the crash occurred about 50 kilometers from Sharm El-Sheikh in the early hours of Sunday morning. The delegation was traveling in a single diplomatic vehicle that was part of the convoy accompanying Qatar’s Prime Minister.
Two other diplomats were injured in the accident and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, security sources told Reuters.
It remains unclear whether the victims were part of Qatar’s negotiating team that participated in indirect talks between Hamas and Israel. Qatar, along with Egypt and Turkey, played a key role in brokering the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, which includes a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal.
The Egyptian resort city is scheduled to host on Monday a global summit to finalize the broader agreement and outline the next steps toward ending the genocide in Gaza.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has not yet issued an official statement on the diplomats’ deaths.
Israel said it has terminated the humanitarian activities in Gaza of Doctors Without Borders, known by its French acronym MSF, after it refused to provide a list of its Palestinian staff over concerns for their safety and a lack of assurances on how the information would be used by Israel.
Encyclopaedia Britannica removed Israel from its educational materials for children and replaced it with Palestine. Following pressure from a pro-Israel lawyers’ group, Britannica reverted to using Israel.
