Thousands March in New York to Protest Israel’s Gaza Genocide

New York (Quds News Network)- Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters took to the streets of Manhattan on Tuesday, calling for an end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza and an immediate arms embargo.

Protesters held up signs, chanted, and marched through Times Square.

More than 400 Palestinian civilians have been killed, the majority of whom are children, and over 560 others injured in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip as Israel continues attacking the enclave since the early hours of Tuesday. Israel has resumed its genocidal war in Gaza after nearly two months of a fragile ceasefire.

According to the Civil Defense in Gaza and UNICEF, over 130 children are among the victims.

“The reports and images emerging from Gaza are beyond horrifying,” UNICEF said. “Some of the strikes reportedly hit makeshift shelters where children and families were sleeping, proving once again that nowhere is safe in Gaza.”

Israeli air force jets have been carrying out a series of attacks across Gaza, targeting multiple areas in the north, centre, and south. Reports confirm intense bombardment of residential homes, schools, and tents housing displaced Palestinians.

Gaza’s Government Media Office said entire families were erased from the civil registry in the Israeli attacks.

“Some have been transported to hospitals, while many others remain unable to reach medical facilities due to the dire humanitarian conditions and the collapse of transportation in Gaza, caused by the fuel shortage. The majority of the martyrs and missing people are women, children, and elders.”

“This is an occupation thirsty for blood,” the Office said, noting the Israeli attacks come amid Israel’s blockade, which is preventing all humanitarian aid from entering the strip, including food, fuel, and medicine.

The Office stated that over 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza have been “deprived of the most basic necessities of life, including food, medicine, water, infant formula, and other essential supplies,” amid accusations of using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza.

At the same time, Gaza’s health system is collapsing due to the continued denial of medical supplies and humanitarian aid, it said, threatening to shut down hospitals and leaving them unable to treat the wounded and sick. “The ongoing fuel blockade also severely affects vital sectors, plunging Gaza into a full-scale disaster.”

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he ordered the military to take “strong action” against Hamas over its refusal to release captives or agree to offers to extend the first phase of the ceasefire.

“Israel will, from now on, act against Hamas with increasing military strength,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

The Israeli military claimed that it was conducting “extensive strikes on terror targets” belonging to Hamas, adding the assault aims to achieve the ‘objectives’ set by the political leadership.

Hamas, however, accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement and risking the lives of captives held in Gaza.

“Hamas remained committed to the agreement until the last moment, prioritizing its continuation, while Netanyahu, seeking to resolve his internal crises, chose to reignite the war at the expense of our people’s blood.”

Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qanou also affirmed that the movement remained in continuous contact with mediators and approached the negotiations responsibly. He stated that Hamas did not reject Witkoff’s proposal but rather engaged with it positively. He stated that Netanyahu resumed the genocide to sabotage the agreement and prolong the suffering of Gaza’s civilians.

The protesters also demanded the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil, an anti-genocide Columbia University graduate and U.S. green card holder, who was detained on March 8 by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents who refused to provide a warrant over his pro-Palestine activism.
