Third Israeli Soldier Commits Suicide This Week Amid Gaza Genocide Trauma

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- At least 15 Israeli soldiers have killed themselves since the start of 2024, according to Haaretz. Since the Gaza genocide began, that number has risen to 43, with most cases involving reserve soldiers overwhelmed by battlefield horrors.

Israeli social media accounts bypassing military censorship reported the latest suicide on Monday. A soldier reportedly killed himself inside a military base in northern occupied Palestine. It marks the third suicide in a single week.

Earlier, the Israeli military confirmed the suicide of Sergeant Leiel Shoham, a reservist from Rehovot, south of Tel Aviv. He died by gunshot at Sde Teiman, a base near Gaza used by Israeli forces as an infamous detention center for Palestinian detainees.

According to reports, Shoham had been called in for questioning and had his weapon confiscated. But he managed to grab another soldier’s rifle and shot himself.

Days earlier, Daniel Edri, another reserve soldier who served in Gaza, also killed himself. He reportedly set himself on fire inside his car in a forest near occupied Safad.

The soldier’s mother said: “He told me he had seen horrors and said, ‘Mom, I constantly smell the burned bodies and see them everywhere.’”

Families of soldiers who died by suicide after discharge and were recognized as war casualties may apply for military honors, but such funerals remain rare.
