Occupied Jerusalem (QNN) – The Israeli authorities closed one of the gates leading to al-Aqsa Mosque Compound, al-Rahma (Mercy) Gate, on Monday morning and prevented Palestinians from moving in or out.
According to local sources, clashes erupted at al-Aqsa Mosque yards between the Israeli police and Palestinian worshippers after they held a vigil in protest to closing al-Rahma Gate.
Palestinians held prayers next to the closed gate before they got assaulted and arrested by Israeli officers for trying to open the gate.
The Israeli authorities repeatedly close the gates of al-Aqsa Mosque, a step that causes tension and clashes in the area, and is seen as a threat to the religious and historical status of al-Aqsa Mosque.
