Spain Urges Sanctions on Israel as Madrid Hosts Gaza Peace Talks

Madrid (Quds News Network)- Spain’s foreign minister called for sanctions on Israel to help stop its genocide in Gaza. His remarks came ahead of a high-level meeting in Madrid on Sunday with European and Arab nations.

Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said the genocide in Gaza “no longer has any goal.” He urged the international community to act and consider every option, including sanctions.

Madrid will host representatives from 20 countries and several international organizations. The goal is to push for an immediate ceasefire and a massive humanitarian response for Gaza.

“Humanitarian aid must enter Gaza massively, unimpeded, and neutrally,” Albares told France Info radio. “It cannot be Israel who decides who can eat and who cannot.”

The meeting includes countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Ireland, and Norway. The Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are also attending.

The call for action comes as conditions in Gaza grow worse. Israel has restricted aid for nearly three months, deepening shortages of food, water, fuel, and medicine. Aid groups say the small amount of aid allowed in recently is not enough.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed nearly 54,000 people in Gaza. Most of the victims are women and children.

The European Union this week announced a review of its cooperation agreement with Israel. Albares said this is the right time for action. “We must consider sanctions,” he said. “We must do everything, consider everything to stop this war.”
