Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- Thousands of Israeli settlers took part in the provocative “Flag March” through occupied Jerusalem, celebrating Israel’s occupation of the city. They made their way through Palestinian neighbourhoods chanting “death to Arabs” and other anti-Palestinian racist slogans, while attacking and harassing residents, journalists and activists, all while backed by police.

The so-called “Flag March” is part of a commemoration of the "Jerusalem Day, Israel’s capture and occupation of East Jerusalem during the Six-Day War in 1967. The march is historically marked by violence and racist and anti-Islamic chants aimed at its Palestinian residents.

Before the official “Flag March” even began, a mob of Israeli teenagers harassed and taunted Palestinian Jerusalemites, as well as journalists and activists, spitting, shouting racist and homophobic slogans, and throwing chairs and coffee at passersby as they walked through the Old City.

An Israeli officer in Jerusalem's Old City pushed Haaretz journalist Linda Dayan while wearing a press card after refusing her request to accompany her out of the area. Teenagers and youth, seemingly as young as 10 years old, threw water and coffee at her, and stole the phone of another journalist in the area. The mob also shouted homophobic slurs at the journalists.

Thousands of police officers were deployed in the area, with major roads around the Old City closed ahead of the march.

The settlers entered the Old City through multiple gates before arriving at the Al-Buraq Wall, which is part of the walls of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex and known to Jews as the Western Wall.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir attended the parade and celebrated “Jerusalem Day" at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, announcing, "Today more than ever – the Temple Mount is in our hands!” He displayed the Israeli flag in front of the Dome of the Rock.

Yitzhak Kroizer, an Israeli MP, stood alongside Ben-Gvir as they danced and sang next to the Dome of the Rock.

“The time has come to get rid of all the mosques and work to construct the Temple!” Kroizer later wrote on Facebook.

Yitzhak Wasserlauf, another minister, said "Jews no longer walk around the Temple Mount like thieves and no longer need to hide" during the raids to the Al-Aqsa Mosque as Israeli forces violently blocked Palestinian worshipers from accessing the holy site while facilitating large-scale settler raids ahead of the “Flag March”.
