Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who has backed the occupation of Gaza and called for the forced displacement and starvation of Palestinians, said his son asked him “not to finish the work” in Lebanon, so there would be something left to do.”
Smotrich's son, an Israeli soldier, was injured in March during retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah during the assault on Lebanon.
Smotrich's son, an Israeli soldier, was injured in March during retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah during the assault on Lebanon.
During an interview on Israeli TV Channel 7, he said that he is recovering quickly from injuries previously described as shrapnel wounds to his back and abdomen.
Smotrich then said that his son has been "asking me not to finish the work and leave him more to do", adding that he should not worry as "there will be enough for everyone".
In March, Smotrich threatened that all of the southern suburbs of Beirut, one of the most densely populated areas near Beirut, will face devastation similar to Gaza during the genocide.
“Very soon, Dahiyeh will resemble Khan Younis,” Smotrich said, referring to a southern Gaza city that has been heavily damaged during Israel’s genocidal war on the enclave.
Israel launched attacks on Lebanon after Hezbollah claimed a rocket attack on northern Israel in retaliation to the Israeli-US assault on Iran. Israel also issued forced displacement threats, causing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes in the south and killing over 2,600 others since March 2.
Israel and Lebanon signed a ceasefire in mid-April which has since been extended into May. However, Israel continues its attacks, while maintaining an occupation of southern Lebanon and demolishing villages there.,
Smotrich is known for supporting the occupation of Gaza and the forced displacement of Palestinians. He also called for the starvation of about two million people in Gaza during the genocide. He seeks to strengthen Israeli control over the occupied West Bank and to bury the idea of establishing a Palestinian state.
