Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Israeli police confiscated a Hungarian flag from a protester during a demonstration in the occupation state, claiming it resembled the Palestinian flag and "could provoke tensions", according to Haaretz.
The incident took place last Saturday at the "Karkur Junction", where Israelis gathered to protest government policies. Police officers approached a man waving the Hungarian flag and demanded that he hand it over. Although the flag of Hungary features red, white, and green stripes arranged horizontally and does not include black, officers argued that Israelis might confuse it with the Palestinian flag.
The protester told Haaretz that he tried to explain the difference, but officers insisted on confiscating the flag. “You might understand that, but others don’t,” he quoted one officer as saying. He offered to return the flag to his car, but the officer refused and took it. Police returned the flag only after the protest ended.
Displaying the Palestinian flag is not illegal in the occupation state. However, Israeli forces carry out raids to remove Palestine's flag across occupied land.
The report comes days after another incident in the settlement of Modiin, where police detained a settler for wearing a kippah that displayed both Palestinian and Israeli flags. Officers later cut the head covering to remove the Palestinian flag.
