Iran Re-Tightens Control Over Strait of Hormuz, Cites US ‘Maritime Piracy’

Iran tightens control over the Strait of Hormuz, warning that continued US pressure and “maritime piracy” could further restrict one of the world’s most critical oil routes as tensions edge closer to escalation.

Tehran (QNN)- Iran has re-tightened control over the Strait of Hormuz, placing the vital waterway under strict military supervision following acts of pirecy by the US military. Iranian officials said the move comes in response to ongoing US “maritime piracy” and blockade measures targeting Iranian shipping.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said Tehran had initially allowed limited and organized passage of oil tankers and commercial vessels through the strait in line with earlier understandings linked to negotiations. He stressed that Iran acted in good faith to support stability and keep global trade moving despite the tense environment.

However, the spokesperson stated that Washington has been undermining those efforts by continuing to intercept and restrict vessels linked to Iran. He said US actions violated commitments and forced Tehran to restore tighter control over the strategic passage.

Iran now insists that navigation through the strait will remain under strict oversight until the United States fully lifts restrictions on ships traveling to and from Iranian ports. Officials in Tehran said the decision is a defensive response aimed at protecting national sovereignty and ensuring fair maritime access.

The development comes at a sensitive moment, as the Strait of Hormuz handles roughly 20 percent of global oil and gas flows, making any disruption a major concern for international markets.

Recent reports indicate that Iran has already implemented a controlled transit system, allowing ships to pass only through designated routes and with prior authorization from its forces.

Meanwhile, the United States continues to rely on a hardline approach. Donald Trump has maintained the naval blockade on Iranian ports and threatened of potential military escalation if negotiations fail.   His statements, which include threats of renewed bombing, have added to fears of a broader confrontation.

Diplomatic efforts remain uncertain. Talks mediated by Pakistan have yet to produce a breakthrough, and disagreements over US demands continue to stall progress.
