Global Sumud Flotilla to Depart Barcelona April 12 in Largest Civilian Mission to Break Gaza Siege

More than 80 boats and 1,000 activists will sail from Barcelona on April 12 in a global civilian mission to challenge Israel’s Gaza blockade.

Barcelona (QNN)- The Global Sumud Flotilla will depart from Barcelona on April 12, launching the largest civilian-led maritime mission in history to challenge Israel’s siege on Gaza. The initiative brings together more than 80 boats and over 1,000 participants from around the world in a coordinated effort that combines sea action with global mobilization on land.

Organizers say the mission responds to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They said that the flotilla is a nonviolent intervention that aims to demand humanitarian access, uphold human dignity, and push for international accountability. The coalition includes activists, legal advocates, and grassroots groups who plan to synchronize protests and advocacy campaigns across multiple countries as the flotilla sails.

Ahead of the launch, organizers will host a three-day media program at Barcelona Port.

The launch will take place during a broader weekend of public events in Barcelona. Organizers have planned cultural activities, political discussions, and community gatherings to build momentum before departure. These events aim to connect international solidarity movements and amplify calls to end the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

The flotilla also includes specialized civilian teams such as doctors, teachers, and engineers. Organizers to support humanitarian relief and early-stage reconstruction efforts in partnership with Palestinians. As the fleet moves, allied groups worldwide will mobilize to increase political and legal pressure and highlight international responsibility.

In October last year, Israeli naval vessels attacked dozens of boats from the Global Sumud Flotilla while they were sailing in international waters toward Gaza, kidnapped them, and detained and tortured hundreds of international activists on board.
