Rutgers University lifts temporary suspension on pro-Palestinian student organization

New Jersey (Quds News Network) – Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, has lift its temporary suspension of the activities of the organization Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) on campus. However, the university has opted to monitor the activities of the pro-Palestinian student group for one year, imposing educational sanctions.

The initial ban on the activities of Students for Justice in Palestine at Rutgers was based on unfounded allegations claiming that the group disrupted classes, programs, meals, and student studies.

In response, the student organization held a press conference at the time behind a banner reading “Rutgers Profits Off Palestinian Suffering.” During the conference, they called for the identification and termination of the individual responsible for leaking the ban letter, which included the name and contact information of an SJP member at the school.

Additionally, the group advocated for the integration of the issue of “anti-Palestinian racism” into mandatory diversity, equity, and inclusion training, as well as the curriculum. They proposed establishing an Arab Cultural Center equipped with resources for Palestinian and Arab students.

The student organization urged the university to divest funds from Israeli bonds and companies and to cease supporting Israeli colonial settlements, apartheid, and genocide.

Furthermore, they called on the school to protect Palestinian students and advocates for their political rights, hire additional professors specializing in Palestine and colonial settlement issues, and issue a statement from the president’s office acknowledging the “ongoing genocide against Palestinians and its impact on the Palestinian people.”
