Report: Israeli tank shelled house in Gaza where Israeli battalion holed up

Gaza (Quds News Network) – Israel’s Army Radio reported that two Israeli soldiers were killed last month by an Israeli tank shell while they were holing up inside a building in Gaza.

The Israeli radio said that the tank targeted the building during the presence of a battalion of Israeli soldiers inside it.

In a statement on Tuesday, the army radio said, “The tank shelled the building, and it only became clear later that it was a military headquarters, resulting in the death of two soldiers.”

The location of the building was not specified, however, the Israeli radio described the incident as “serious and unusual” after initially identifying the building at the site as suspicious.

“It seems that the soldiers detected suspicious movements there and decided to attack the building, launching a tank shell on its second floor”, it added.

“It was only later revealed that the building was the “main house,” which means the main field headquarters of one of the infantry brigades operating in Gaza. Two soldiers in the second floor were killed instantly.”

This is not the first incident of its kind in the Gaza Strip; Israel’s Doron Kadosh website cited sources in the Israeli army as stating that 13 of the casualties resulted from misidentification as Palestinian resistance fighters. They were either shot or bombarded, while some were killed by tank and infantry fire.

The same website mentioned that a soldier was killed by a bullet that bounced off one of his colleagues’ weapon without the intention of hitting him.

It added that two soldiers were killed in ramming incidents caused by Israeli vehicles. Another soldier was killed by a tank machine gun fire.

The report stated as well that two soldiers were killed by fragments of explosives detonated by the Israeli army.
