Rashida Tlaib Wins Reelection in Michigan’s 12th Congressional District
Michigan (Quds News Network)- Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib defeated her Republican opponent in Michigan’s 12th congressional district election on Tuesday, securing a fourth term as the only Palestinian-American woman in the US Congress.
The Associated Press called the race with just 18% of the votes counted.
Tlaib secured 77% of the vote, defeating the Republican Party’s James Hooper who received just 19% of the vote.
Rashida Tlaib, the first Palestinian Progressive Democrat and was born in Detroit to Palestinian immigrant parents, has been one of the most outspoken politicians on Israeli occupation of her homeland.
She has also been a vocal critic of the Israeli genocide war in Gaza, calling for the US to withhold weapons from Israel.
In the days leading up to the November election, Tlaib declined to endorse Kamala Harris for US president but still urged Americans to go to the polls and vote.
At a rally in Dearborn earlier on Friday, Tlaib criticized Donald Trump who has been endorsed by the Muslim mayors of Dearborn Heights and Hamtramck.
“Trump is a proud Islamophobe + serial liar who doesn’t stand for peace,” Tlaib posted on X. “The reality is that the Biden admin’s unconditional support for genocide is what got us here. This should be a wake-up call for those who continue to support genocide. This election didn’t have to be close.”
