Quds News Network Statement on the Abduction of Global Sumud Flotilla Participants
All of us at Quds News Network (QNN) are deeply disturbed by reports of inhumane and abusive treatment of nonviolent activists and journalists kidnapped by Israeli forces while participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla. Among those affected were international journalists, including several covering humanitarian efforts to Gaza.
As an independent Palestinian network committed to representing the full spectrum of Palestinian society, QNN recognizes and commends the courage of these international activists. Their work to promote peace, expose the truth, and raise global awareness underscores and honors the resilience, dignity, and enduring struggle of the Palestinian people.
According to multiple reports, abductees were subjected to long periods of restraint, denial of basic needs, and verbal and physical abuse. Some were held without legal counsel, forcibly moved between detention centers, and, in certain cases, humiliated by Israeli officials. Among those detained, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and other international participants reported harsh conditions, including inadequate food and water, and unsanitary cells.
QNN calls for the immediate release of all kidnapped flotilla participants and the humane treatment of journalists and activists. We urge the international community, including the United Nations, governments worldwide, and human rights organizations, to hold Israel accountable and defend press freedom and humanitarian work.
These events underscore the ongoing challenges facing Palestinians and those standing in solidarity with Gaza. We in QNN remain committed to reporting the truth, amplifying the voices of the oppressed, and advocating for justice, dignity, and human rights for all.
Israel said it has terminated the humanitarian activities in Gaza of Doctors Without Borders, known by its French acronym MSF, after it refused to provide a list of its Palestinian staff over concerns for their safety and a lack of assurances on how the information would be used by Israel.
Encyclopaedia Britannica removed Israel from its educational materials for children and replaced it with Palestine. Following pressure from a pro-Israel lawyers’ group, Britannica reverted to using Israel.
