Qatari activists call for Arabs to raise Palestinian flags at 2022 Qatar World Cup

Doha (QNN)- Qatari activists have called for Arab and Qatari crowds to raise the Palestinian flags in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in support of the Palestinian cause at the world’s most celebrated sporting event.

The “Qatar Youth Group Against Normalization” has recently demanded that Qatari and Arab crowds show solidarity with Palestine by carrying the Palestinian flags and largely displaying them in stadiums, roads, streets, cars, and houses, throughout the days of the World Cup.

The group said in a statement that this is a chance to draw attention to the Palestinian cause on an international stage.

The call comes after launching the “Palestine Captain Badge” campaign, in which activists from the four Arab countries participating in the World Cup demanded players of the Arab teams wear pro-Palestinian armbands.

The activists denounced what they called “double standards” found in sports when it comes to expressing certain beliefs as the call to wear the badge comes after European football team captains announced that they will wear armbands in support of Ukraine and other causes.

The Arab teams which have qualified for the tournament are Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and hosts Qatar.

The highly-anticipated World Cup finals are set to take place in Qatar between November and December this year, with 1.2 million visitors expected to be in attendance, according to Bloomberg.

Qatar became the first Arab country to host the World Cup, when it won hosting rights back in December 2010.
