Brussels (QNN)- The European Union asserted on Monday that Israeli settlement activity in Palestine was illegal under international law and eroded prospects for lasting peace. “The EU calls on Israel to end all settlement activity, in line with its obligations as an occupying power,” EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said in a statement. Her comments came after the United States announced support to Israel’s ongoing construction of illegal settlements, which swallow over 50% of the occupied Jerusalem and West Bank. By its announcement, the US abandoned its four-decade-old position that Israeli settlements were “inconsistent with international law.”
