In a social media post on X, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed that Iran is targeting civilians after the Iranian ambassador to the UN confirmed that his country’s strikes had been directed at the US bases and assets as part of its operation which comes in response to the Israeli-US assault on the country.
The US Central Command listed the locations of what it described as “civilian” sites; however, at least three of those locations are military facilities.
Here are locations known to have military use:
• Kuwait International Airport ↳ Official records show a military air base (Abdullah Al-Mubarak Air Base) is part of the complex, used by the Kuwait Air Force and has an American naval base.
• Erbil International Airport ↳ Originally built as a military base and still used for government and military flights; it has been targeted previously in attacks because of its proximity to US/coalition forces.
• Port of Dubai (Jebel Ali Port) ↳ Dubai's Jebel Ali Port, while not a formal military base, is the US Navy's largest port of call in the Middle East that regularly hosts US aircraft carriers and other vessels.
The list also included the Haifa Oil Refinery. However, the social media post was later edited by CENTCOM, and the name of the refinery was removed. However, the change made in the post grabbed the attention of eagle-eyed social media users who were quick to flag it.
