Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Israel has announced the indefinite closure of the Allenby Bridge, suspending the movement of goods and people through the sole crossing point between the occupied West Bank and Jordan. The move is reported to be among the first measures of collective punishment following the wave of recognition of a Palestinian state. Israel will close the also-known King Hussein Bridge, starting on Wednesday until further notice, the Palestinian General Authority for Borders and Crossings said on Tuesday. The Jordanian Public Security Directorate also announced the closure, saying the crossing was being shut “to passenger and cargo traffic by the other side until further notice”. The Allenby Crossing is the main route for transporting commercial goods between Jordan and the West Bank. The crossing in the Jordan Valley, known as Karama on the Palestinian side, is the only international gateway for Palestinians from the occupied West Bank that does not require entering Israel, which has occupied the territory since 1967. It was opened on Sunday after it was temporarily closed by Israel following a resistance operation carried out by Jordanian national who killed two Israeli soldiers in response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. According to reports, there are a lot of questions as to why Netanyahu has decided to close the border entirely. Israeli media reported it as the first countermeasures Israel is taking as a result of many countries in the international community recognising a Palestinian state. More than 80 percent of the international community now recognise the state of Palestine, with diplomatic pressure ramping up on Israel as it continues the genocide in Gaza, where more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed amid plans to occupy Gaza City.
